Villeneuf = indiepop
Despite what you might think based on their French name and American sounding songs, these five guys were born and bread in the Netherlands. They listen to the likes of Editors, Bon Iver, Midlake, Muse en Blur and you can sometimes hear these influences too, but make no mistake: Villeneuf are their own man. The intelligent vocal arrangements and original song structure are what makes Villeneuf Villeneuf.
Achievements
In 2011 Villeneuf competed in the highly regarded Grote Prijs van Nederland and made it through to the semi-finals. In the Summer of 2011 they signed with Massive Talent for usage of the song ‘Home’, a single that had been previously released. The selftitled debut album dates back to 2008.
Sounds like…2012
It will be four years since the release of their first album, so Villeneufs follow-up is long overdue. Don’t worry – their second album is scheduled for release in June of 2012! Frontman Michiel van Poelgeest has spent the last few years collaborating with a wide variety of musicians alongside producer Bas Ernst, exchanging ideas and tracks (predominantly) online. Yes, it’s all very ’2012′. But then again: the album should sound 2012, should it not?
